A recent feature in Landscape Ontario gave us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the evolution of Silverfern. Our work is defined by our unique individual backgrounds: Carl in architecture and Carla in steel fabrication. Having both been raised in family businesses, we understand that we aren’t just providing a service—we're building a legacy of trust and quality for the clients we serve.
Silverfern was founded in 2016, named after the national plant of New Zealand in a nod to Carl’s heritage. Our journey has taken us from managing large-scale, award-winning commercial landmarks like the Elora Mill and The Pearle Hotel & Spa to our current focus: high-end residential design-build projects across Guelph, Cambridge, and Kitchener-Waterloo.
As partners in business and in life, we’ve found our perfect balance. Carl leads our team with a lifetime of expertise in the field, while Carla ensures our operations run with professional precision. We believe that while the physical work is essential, 90% of a project is the client experience. We’ve brought the "hospitality" mindset into the landscaping world—striving for perfection and building genuine, honest relationships with every home and business owner. For us, a successful project isn't just about a beautiful landscape; it’s about the "full circle" moments when we see our clients truly enjoying the spaces we've poured our hearts into.
